Sometimes we just shop for fun, and that's okay, too. Also: What I bought to celebrate myself during Birthday Month, what I wore to work this week, and it's time to talk about my suede skirt.
Happy birthday month, Danielle! Those Depop finds are so good especially the Damson Madder coat (whatttt. I wish I have permanent spring weather now!) I am 100% behind re-wearing the suede skirt at least once just to see if it still vibes with you.
Happy, happy birthday Danielle, I hope you have a wonderful day/month celebrating! That meme of the soggy straw is so dead on. I have the same feelings about secondhand (am I buying too much?) but then my total purchases barely touch the price of one new item, so I think we're okay. I love your collar styling and hope you enjoy the red fringe jacket as much as I do.
Thank you so much Tina. I hope I don’t disappoint you by having so many red jackets (it’s not very sustainable is it?): a rain jacket, a spring coat, the Utex coat, a red windbreaker. They will all be thoroughly used and loved by me for the many moods of NY weather. ♥️
I love that you found the old WTC mall floor plan! I still have the pants that I was wearing when I walked to Williamsburg from Lower Manhattan on 9/11, but for some reason I didn’t feel as sentimental about the top.
Hooray for birthday month, and yes to treating yourself! It’s okay to have a bit of a splurge every so often! I love that you bought Tina’s jacket!🌹
I would absolutely wear that suede skirt! It’s a mini, not a pencil (pencil skirts are just above or at the knee). Tights, tall boots and a turtleneck, and one of the red coats! Do it!💕
Haha this is a pencil skirt - it’s just above the knee on this short legged queen. I have tried on that exact look with this skirt and it does work so well. It’s just that I feel like I’m wearing a museum piece. Maybe I’ll try again. And thank you!!
Ah, gotcha (being a short queen myself!), you know better!
All the more reason to wear it, Danielle! Things are meant to be used and worn; enjoy its history and make new memories with it. The suede needs to be worn to keep it supple too!
Happy birthday week!!! I love all of the treats you’ve gotten, especially the red coat and the trench coat feels very unique and much cooler than a traditional trench coat! I think you should definitely wear the skirt - it’d be great with your tall boots and black turtleneck with one of your fun coats!
YAY for your birthday month! I love a good “treat yo’ self” moment. I’m obsessed with the Tina-inspired red fringe coat. STUNNING! I am loving the bib collar and excited to join Team Bib Collar based on your inspo. The handmade sweater is gorgeous. I love seeing your creations I think my favorite outfit is Friday. I love the way the handmade sweater looks with the barrel jeans. The lady shoes really make the look extra fun.
I think we need suede skirt styling à la Danielle next. If anyone can make it work in suburbia, YOU CAN!
Thank you so much milady. I can’t wait to see how you style up your own lace collar. I have played with the suede skirt a bit but I dunno, I just feel weird wearing it. I feel like I’d be wearing a museum piece which is ridiculous of course but this is the way the feelings I have around that place and that skirt have solidified.
This post had such depth! I love your new birthday purchases (happy birthday) and your recent outfits, and the piece at the end about clothing holding onto memories, wow, yes absolutely.
Happy birthday! I love the bracelet over the red sock and the brown shoe. I have a few too-small old clothes I’ve hung onto because I hope to find them in a size that fits me someday before I let them go. It’s silly but I have space so why not.
Hurrah for treating yourself! And all your purchases look great.
I still have the top I wore to my daughter's wedding. The marriage ended over 10 years ago, amicably, and it was a great wedding, so I have no bad feelings associated with the top - it's just that it is ice blue, polyester, and heavily beaded. Yup, I will never wear it again, and I need to let it go.
I feel as though your suede skirt would look so cute with one of your collars and a handmade knit, and a little pillbox hat... is it worth trying to see if it would work with your style now? But also, I don't see anything wrong with it just hanging in your closet.
Thank youuuu. I can’t wait to play with that; you know I’ll be sharing more than anyone wants me to. Can’t wait for your newsletter for magpies tomorrow.
Happy birthday—though I fear this is not one of those instances where your post and mine are aligned 😘 your exuberant shopping has me feeling like the single girl whose last unmarried friend just announced her engagement! (I kid, I kid!)
I’m generally pretty unsentimental with my own clothing. I just donated my wedding dress (it was non-traditional, I could have worn it on fancy occasions but besides the memory, I never loved it) and the dress I wore to my baby shower/formerly my favorite. I’m way more sentimental with my kid’s baby clothes!
I’m not really sentimental about most clothes, but I still have my wedding dress, and the skirt purchased from the WTC. But yea, I mean, clothes are fun and while I do think we should be thinking about sustainability and intention, it’s ok to think about the fun part of style too.
Happy almost birthday, Danielle! That red DM coat is divine.
Thank you!!
Yay for the Ottoman Empire! Happy birthday.
Thank you ♥️

Thank you Elaine!
You have such a unique, charming sense of style! Lovee the details on that trench coat!
Thank you so much. That is such a meaningful compliment to me :) ♥️

I have too many black and gray jackets, so I think we're in the same place :)
No such thing as too many black or gray jackets! Lol

You also saved pieces from that day! You get it. I think you had to be there to truly understand.

Thank you Gillian!! The general consensus is that I should wear the skirt. Maybe I just need to give it a go.
Ok I am in LOVE with your red embroidered coat from Depop. It’s perfect ❤️ and yes! Treat yourself! You deserve it!
Thank you! I’m very excited for the coat to be in my grabby hands.

Thank you Lindsay! Yes…clothes do hold onto memories, I think, for better or worse, no?
Happy birthday! I love the bracelet over the red sock and the brown shoe. I have a few too-small old clothes I’ve hung onto because I hope to find them in a size that fits me someday before I let them go. It’s silly but I have space so why not.
We all have some of those clothes in our closet I think. And thanks for the birthday wishes!

Is that why you call him your outlaw? That’s adorable. You’ve given me food for thought. I do like that outfit combo you suggested.
My outlaw is the present incumbent, father of the light of my life. I’m assuming someone will make an honest man of him sometime :)
Looking forward to seeing the outfit pics :)
Aha! Thank you for explaining. I’ve been curious.
Happy Birthday!!! Treat yo self!!!
😂 we deserve it! And thank you.
happy birthday!!! 🎂🎉can’t wait to see how you style that perfect red damson madder 💗💗
